Papa John’s To Pay Delivery Workers 2 Million Dollars For Wage Theft

Delivery workers who were cheated out of their overtime by five Papa John’s pizzerias in New York will receive $2,126,166.34 in settlement money. The payment by Papa John’s follows an Order by New York County Supreme Court Justice Joan M. Kenney, finding that Papa John’s failed to pay employees wages they earned. The lawsuit against Papa John’s was filed by New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman. The lawsuit alleged that workers at the pizzerias did not receive overtime pay and that Papa John’s regularly engaged in time-shaving from employee payroll records, and committed other violations of the restaurant workers’ rights under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the New York Labor Law (NYLL). Payment will be distributed to hundreds of employees who worked at five locations of Papa John’s in Manhattan and is for owed wages, unreimbursed expenses, liquidated damages, and interest. The Attorney General will distribute payment to each of the delivery workers.
