The United States Department of Labor (“DOL”) just launched a free smartphone application, the DOL-Timesheet App which allows workers to individually track their work hours, break times, and overtime for one or more employers.  Workers can also enter work-related information, email their timesheets and view their work hours in daily, weekly and monthly calendar formats.  The DOL-Timesheet App is available in English and Spanish.  It is also compatible with the iPhone and iPod Touch, and soon will be available for Android and Blackberry users.

The DOL, in its press release, found this technology to be “significant because, instead of relying on their employers’ records, workers now can keep their own records.”  The Secretary of Labor, Hilda L. Solis mentioned “this app will help empower workers to understand and stand up for their rights when employers have denied their hard-earned pay.”  The App and the calendar can now be downloaded from the DOL Wage and Hour Division’s website.
